About Mrs. Parten:
I grew up in Winfield, Georgia (close to Thomson and Augusta) and went to Greenbrier High School in Evans, Georgia. I grew up with educator parents - a Superintendent and a Principal. In fact, I am a 6th generation public educator and very proud of it! I love teaching, my students, and my subject!
I am ??? years old and have spent the past four years teaching high school history: one year at Thomson High School and 3 years teaching World, U.S. and APUSH at Valdosta High School. Before this, I lived in Sandersville, Georgia while I was earning my graduate degree in U.S. History (Concentration on Religion in the Frontier of Georgia 1740-1830) at Georgia College and State University. I also taught entry-level U.S. History courses at Gordon College, Georgia College and State University, Fort Valley State, Valdosta State and ABAC before teaching at the High School level. I received my undergraduate degree in History from Valdosta State University and my Associate's Degree focusing in Religion and Philosophy from Young Harris College.
I met my husband, Derek Parten, at Young Harris College. He is the head girl's soccer coach at Thomson High School and he has spent the past eight years teaching middle and high school math and history as well as coaching Varisty Boys Soccer at Valdosta High School.
I am always available after school from 3:15-3:30 pm and am willing to stay later by appointment. Parent Conferences may be scheduled with the counselors office at Thomson High School: 706-986-4200.
